What a week and a weekend.. I try go to my internship site at least twice a week to volunteer doing random things around the office. Being in a new hospital it can be really difficult to become a recognizable face to the current staff. I want to make that transition as easy as possible for myself and the staff that I will be interacting with on a daily basis.
This week I overslept on my volunteering appointment but eventually made it with coffee in hand for my supervisor and myself. This is something I do often as the hospital can be very hectic sometimes and filling the music library with the smell of coffee can make things all better!
I must say that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the music library that the music therapy department has built. not only is there a closet with three walls full of CDs but also a computer with over 12,000 songs on iTunes. I could sit at that computer all day and listen to music..actually for a couple of days straight. I think this week I looked and you could listen to music for 32 days straight. Now that is impressive!
Surgery! Surgery! Surgery! Each day I volunteer I spend a good amount of time loading iPods for all of the surgery patients. This week there were a ton of surgeries and a ton of iPods to be loaded, and I still didn't get them all finsihed. This is a very cool option that surgery patients get offered when they come into the hospital. I definately want an iPod if I ever have to go into the hospital for surgery.
Well I'm officially 2 weeks away from getting married and 23 days away from staring my internship full time! Life is so exciting here lately, I can't hardly stand it!

Introduction
It seems like just yesterday that I was graduating from high school and starting my college career at UofL. Not only have I finished my Music Therapy course work at UofL but I'm two months away from starting my final Music Therapy internship at Norton Audubon Hospital. They weren't kidding when they said that college would be over with in a blink of an eye.....
I do have to say that I am very excited to finally spend every day of the week doing music therapy. Clinical placements throughout college are just a taste of what music therapy is all about, you get to see music therapy in various capacities in hopes that you will find your dream population. While I experienced so many different populations and learned so much from each of them I'm ready to step out and define myself as a therapist, beyond the population.
I plan to use this blog to post helpful information, stories, books, and research that I encounter throughout my time at Norton Audubon Hospital. I know this next year is going to be very exciting and I would like to invite you to be apart of my music therapy internship journey!
INTERNSHIP START DATE: JULY 8, 2013
To be continued!
